As the temperatures drop, there’s nothing better than making your home feel warm, cozy, and inviting. Instead of relying on artificial fragrances or harsh chemicals, why not embrace natural, eco-friendly solutions?

With just a few simple ingredients—many of which you may already have in your kitchen—you can create soothing scents, refreshing sprays, and effective cleaners. These DIY recipes help you reduce waste while filling your space with comforting winter aromas. Get ready to transform your home into a natural winter sanctuary!

1. Eucalyptus hanging in the shower

We love it because the steam from your shower activates the eucalyptus’s essential oils, filling your bathroom with a refreshing, spa-like scent.

Beyond its invigorating aroma, eucalyptus brings a touch of evergreen freshness into our home, making it feel more vibrant during the winter months.

The scent is known for its mood-boosting properties, helping to reduce mental fatigue and promote relaxation. Its natural antimicrobial qualities can also contribute to a cleaner air environment, making it a simple yet effective way to enhance your daily routine.

What you need:

  • A bundle of fresh eucalyptus branches
  • String or twine
  • Scissors

How to do it:

  1. Gather a small bundle of eucalyptus branches from a florist or garden store.
  2. Tie the stems together tightly using string or twine.
  3. Hang the bundle from your showerhead, ensuring it’s out of direct water flow but close enough for the steam to release its aromatic oils.

How to store it:

A fresh bunch of eucalyptus should last for up to two to three weeks. Replace it with a new one once the leaves start to brown or show signs of mold.

2. Homemade home spray with orange peels and rosemary

We love it because it’s perfect for freshening up living rooms, bathrooms, or even linens.

Just use this natural spray around your home to enjoy its warm, citrusy aroma. The combination of orange and rosemary creates a cozy yet refreshing scent, bringing a hint of the outdoors inside. Last but not least, this DIY spray is a fantastic way to eliminate stale air!

What you need:

  • Peels from 2-3 oranges
  • A few sprigs of fresh rosemary (or herb of your choice)
  • 2 cups of water
  • A small saucepan
  • A fine-mesh strainer
  • A spray bottle
  • Optional additions: essential oils

How to do it:

  1. Place the orange peels and rosemary sprigs in a small saucepan with water.
  2. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer for 10-15 minutes.
  3. Allow the mixture to cool, then strain out the solids.
  4. Pour the liquid into a spray bottle.
  5. Feel free to add a few drops of complementary essential oils to boost the scent.
  6. Spritz this natural spray around your home to enjoy its warm, citrusy aroma.

How to store it

Keep it in a cool, dark place (like a cupboard) or in the fridge for extended freshness. If you add a little bit of alcohol, it can last up to 1-2 months. If you keep it just with water, it should last 1-2 weeks in the fridge.

3. Natural home cleaner with lemon and vinegar

Use this eco-friendly cleaner to wipe down countertops, sinks, and other surfaces. The acidity of the vinegar combined with the lemon’s natural oils make it a powerful and fresh-smelling cleaning solution.

We love it because it’s eco and budget-friendly but still very effective. There are so many ways to use vinegar in home care, but this is one of our favorites for its natural grease-cutting and antibacterial properties.

What you need:

  • Leftover squeezed lemon halves
  • White vinegar
  • A mason jar with a lid
  • A spray bottle

How to do it:

  1. Fill a mason jar halfway with white vinegar.
  2. Add the leftover lemons to the jar until nearly full, ensuring lemons are fully covered.
  3. Seal the jar and let it sit for 1-2 weeks to infuse.
  4. Strain out the lemons and pour the infused vinegar into a spray bottle.
  5. Use the resulting cleaner to wipe down countertops, sinks, and other surfaces. The combination of vinegar and lemon makes it powerful and fresh-smelling!

Pro Tip - We collect all our lemon halves in a designated container we keep in the freezer or fridge so that they stay fresh and are ready to use whenever!

How to store it

Keep in a cool, dark place or under the sink. It can last up to 3-6 months because vinegar acts as a preservative. The longer it sits, the stronger it gets!
